For Thursday February 25th until Sunday February 28th
This ceramic sculpture workshop in the beautiful setting of the Camphill Community at Mourne Grange is an amazing opportunity for a limited number of participants.
Eversion - Turning yourself inside-outside-inside
Art is a mysterious language. It’s a language that requires you to submit to energies beyond your conscious control. In art’s making all your expectations and assumptions will change. Using art is akin to inhabiting a parallel universe. It’s easier if you can step beyond your usual space and time zones and you are prepared to have your whole world turn inside-out. Going deeply into the world of ultimate-possibility-within is best experienced in a safe, supported and beautiful atmosphere. Such a special place is what Mourne Grange in the Mourne Mountains offered to me when I experienced one of Sabine Classen’s extra-ordinary ceramic workshops.
Sabine’s workshops precipitate a wholehearted identification with form and structure – participants draw simple forms.
In drawing, your gestures and lines begin to relate to a specific form in a deeply intimate way. This personal exploration opens into group experiences as the form gets explored communally through synchronized eurythmic movement. The workshop I experienced animated the sphere using the flow of the lemniscape and the Möbius-band.
The 2016 workshop will play with the spiralling movements of the lemniscape and the Möbius-band on the intriguing balance of the oloid.
Eversion is a term that describes an act of turning inside out and the state of being turned inside out. This loosely describes what happens to the form in response to spiralling energies as a sphere or oloid is opened and connected with living forces.
It cannot describe the way the participants synchronously experience the condition of being turned inside-out yet safely sustain a sense of balance and unity. Creating such a dynamic and beautiful sculpture requires and develops a corresponding inner harmony in the maker that is personally transformative.
The four day commitment to a seminar with Sabine is a richly rewarding and potentially life-changing event that I heartily recommend.
